ENTERTAINMENTS.
"OUR REGIMENT." Everything augurs well for a successful production of "Our Regiment," at the Theatre to-morrow night, and everybody seems to be catching the enthusiasm of the promoters. All preparations are well in advance and -a full house is assured. The Garrison Band will ,play in front of the Theatre Royal from 7.3f> to 8 p.m. As the night is intended to be a military one, all who possess uniforms are requested to wear them.
v ROYAL PICTURES . A splendid programme was shown at the Theatre Royal last night, and will lie screened for tlie last time to-night. A film by the Nordisk Company. 'TheOicat Circus Catastrophe," was undoubtedly one of the most sensational yet screened in the town. A young nobleman named Von Ross is ruined by having to pay a large bond on behalf of a friend. His property is seized and sold, and accompanied by an old servant, he leaves his ancestral home for ever. At a hotel he happens to meet a circus manager named Winge and a Mdlle. Dore (an rqucstrienne). Vnn Ross is greatly attracted by Mdle. Dore and pays her manv attentions, hut they nrc watched by Evelyn (another member of the circus ' troupe!. who has also fallen in love with the handsome young man. A T on Ross distinguishes himself bv riding a horse which has thrown all previous riders. One night the hotel catches fire, and a rush is made for the elevator, which quicklv becomes filled, and Dore and Von Row are unable to find room. Evelyn gives her place to her rival and accompanies Von Ross in the attempt to c«capo. hut thev are blocked bv the flames. Thev determine to escape bv the telephone wire* which stretch from roof to roof. Evelyn crawls across the wiw. hut when half way across falls ofl\ and is caught bv a sheet held bv some men in the court below. Von Ross, however, climbs across the wire and reaches safety. Von Ross has uromiscd to dn a rWd of evcnnfionnl dariwr horsemanship. Evelyn and his old servant trv to persuade him to give nn the performance, but ho refines, on Ileum taunted by Mdlle. Dore. Von Ro.« rides the horse on to a cradle and i« raised hisrh in the air. Then commencea terrifying scene. Amid the blaze of fireworks the horse gets out of control and is dashed to the floor below, crnellv. mniifflintr the rider. Tie is nursed back to lifehy Evelvn. and realising that hj« Ws her, tl.o pair are left in perfect happme»s. This film is nearly MOO feet loutr. and every foot contains a thrill. Resides the*o, a number of other film* wcralso screened, one featuring John Bnnnv and Lillian Walker. The KVen Comliany is to the fore as usual with n pic ture which is remarkable on amount or the fact that it was taken nart.lv at sen "'id partly in Fffvnt on the Sahara Desert. "A Romance of the TWder." bv the Luhin Company was al*o well received and a quartette of the best comics created great applause.
