"BOOSTING" THE TOWN.
To the Eijitof. • Sir—l ndticed in this' rrforrring's,paper ' a paragraph in ; wtiielij cine of our leading citizens i repiies ! 'U 'who think "boosting" our town 1 should be done proportionately to to'be derived. He readily looks tip ,)iis ledger and finds that he has given ijs;J23 last year in subscriptions and donations. We'will ac-' cept his figures, and that his conscience is not pricking' hihl because he has denied himself uiidiily. ' However, the fact remayi's ;'fcli'at mir' town wants "boosting," and it must be done proportionately, and if our charitable leading citizen were charitable'in a''way'that cannot be written in an earthly ledger he would readily admit' 'tlhai; his' poorer friends had given freely ' according to their means and are still willing to give freely to the help of the town. Remember the parable of the widow's mite. I consider the donations of our leading citizens are on the low side, and they would do well to increase them and make the work of the canvassers a pleasure instead of a burden, wMeh it undoubtedly is at presentt.—l am, etc., PROPORTION.
