WAITARA NEWS.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening. Cr. Tate was granted further leave of absence, owing to illness. Correspondence was read from the Harbor Board, covering a statement of bridge revenues received; from the Minister of Internal Affairs, in reference to severance of portions of the borough; from Mr. Waata Hipanga, asking that the Atiawa Sports Club be granted a portion of the Rec. road for planting purposes; from Messrs Roy and Nicholson, borough solicitors, giving legal opinion on the application; from Mr. W. F. Ncwbery, re water charges; from J. Ohlsen, re nightsoil contract; from F. Clare, re crushing metal; from poundkeeper, re grazing on pound reserve; from S. Nosworthy, asking for levels of Brown street. The building surveyor reported cases of two breaches of the building by-laws. Mr. Waata Hikanga is to be advised that the Council cannot give the Sports Club authority to plant trees on the Rec. road, but no objection would ba raised thereto. The nightsoil contractor is to be authorised to charge sixpence per pan for weekly and ninepence per pan for fortnightly services. The matter of the pound reserve was referred to the Works Committee.

It was resolved to notify one of the Council's contractors that unless the crusher contractors are paid for crushing, the contract will be cancelled. The application for street levels was referred to the engineer. The Health Officer's, attention is to be called to certain matters contained in the overseer's report. The town clerk was authorised to obtain tar as required by the foreniau. The matter of concrete channelling for McLean street was referred to the Works Committee. The borough solicitor is to be instructed to take proceedings against several persons for breach of the building by-laws. The Railway Department are to be asked to cut back trees on the corner of Ogle and Donnell streets so as not to obscure the electric light. The only tender for supply of 1000 yds of metal for lie-Loan street, that of Tate and Paul, at 7s per vard, was' accepted. • ' '-'V.gijiipi Accounts amounting to £049 19s 8d were passed for payment.
