A gang of armed men entered Faulkner's, jewellers, at Saint Martin's Line, and fell on the proprietor, and stole diamond jewellery valued at £SOO. Burglars at the Civil Service Stoics at the Haymarket stole £IOOO worth of jewellery. SUBSIDISING HORSES 1-OR ARTILLERY. London, November S. With the object of encouraging owrere to keep horses suitable for artillery purposes, the War Office is forming a special horse reserve, and will subsidise cwrers to the extent of £4 per horse • nuuully. They then attacked the troops who had been to arrest the ring leaders. The soldiers fired wounding many. MUTINOUS SAILORS. Sebastopol, November 8. Seventeen sailors have been sentenced to death for instigating disturbances in the fleet, one hundred and six sentenced to from four to eight years' imprisonment, and twenty-nine were acquitted.

Colour-Sergeant Werington, one of the cadets who recently toured England and Canada, returning home by the steamer Warialda, was found dead in his cabin, shot through the head. It is supposed to be a case of accident. A MELBOURNE DIVORCE CASE. Melbourne, November 8. Mr. Rivinglon's petition against his wife Florence Young, an actress, for dissolution of marriage, a decree niei w r as made, absolute. A I'TNE POINT. London, November S. The purchase of large quantities of silver by the Indian Government through the firm of Samuel Montague lias raised the question whether it is proper for Mr. Stuart Samuel, a member of the firm, retaining his seat in the House of Commons. The law officers are investigating. POTATOES £lB A TON. Received 9, 1 a.m. Sydney, November 8. Potatoes are scarce and choicest are quoted at £lB a ton.
