The fine weather attracted for Oaks Day a large number of people, especially ladies who were disappointed on the other two days. This accounted for the big crowd, which was a record one for the day. The Governor-General was present. The racing was interesting. Dyed Garments broke his neck. The results were as follows:

Goldfish led for three-quarters of a mile, when Dyed Garments went to the front', but soon afterwards fell. Tadanga led Moe to the back. Perdita and Moe were together past the abattoirs, and a good race saw the former win by three-quarters of a length, Symetris two lengths away third. Time, 2min. 39sec.
