HOUSE RENT PROBLEM.

A N.S.W. COMMISSIONS FINDINGS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 7, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, November 0. The Parlimentary Committee which enquired into the enormous increase in house rents assigns the causes to the increase in population, the growing cost of labor and material, the demolitions through resumptions, the growing de-, mand for cottages and houses, resulting from the prosperity, the increasing demand for cottages in preference to terrace houses, and, in isolated cases, to the Federal land tax. The recommendations of the committee include empowering the Government Savings Bank to lend artisans 95 per cent, of the cost of building a house, making available suitable Crown land about the suburbs, a vigorous policy of house construction bv the Government, permitting people to live in canvas dwellings at Daeeyville and Centennial Park during the summer. The committee also urges passing a Bill to regulate . rents.
