Continuing his evidence before the select committee, Mr. King, secretary of the Post Office, admitted that while •the negotiations were in progress no evidence was given that Marconi was capable of sending fifty words per minute as ■ stipulated in the contract, but a demonstration was promised. No Post Office experts inspected the Marconi stations. It was realised that if, after the Marconi stations were built, the Poulson system proved more effective, it could be substituted at an outlay of £13,000 per station. He admitted a contract was «ntered into between the Post Office and Godfrey Isaacs (managing director of the Wireless Company) before the final terms had been submitted to the Admiralty and the War Office. The contract was perfectly clean, and no political ' pressure had been exercised. He added that as far as the Post Office was concerned, Sir Rufus Isaacs was ignorant of ike whole thing.
