EMPIRE DEFENCE.

I A SUGGESTED CONFERENCE. By Cable —Press Association—-Copyright. London, November 4. The Times, referring to Mr. James Allen's visit to England in- the spring, suggests that Mr. Peai'ce, Defence Minister for Australia, might visit England at the same time, or the members concerned might find it possible to attend a subsidiary defence conference in Australia. Failing this, Vancouver might prove a convenient half-way meeting place. IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS POSSIBLE. Sydney, November 5. The 'Herald declares that if an Imperial Conference at Vancouver be held it will be one of the most important meetings since the Dominions were called into council with the Imperial Government with regard to the defence of the Empire. Some-definite scheme for the future must be evolved, and the proposed 'conference should do much to make this possible.
