THE SPRING SHOWS.

THE I-lAWERA FIXTURE.

THE HOME INDUSTRIES DEPART-

Probably no greater interest is taken in any section than that displayed each year in the home industries department. This section since the show of 1908 has risen above all expectations; year by year the entries get bigger, and the prospects' for this year's event seems brighter than ever. The classes all through have been carefully revised, and the housewife or spinster can have ample variety of choice from the bread, scones and cakes to the more intricate fancy work. The variety of the classes is post noticeable, and the prize-money must specially commend itself to all and sundry. Provision is made for every class of cookery, including shortbread, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cream puffs, family cakes, iced and ornamental cakes, pikelets, puddings, biscuits, home-made sweets and every known delicacy. Then there are the more substantial classes—-home-made sauces, jams, jellies, and bottled fruits! Then there are classes of every description of plain and fancy sewing, from the familiar crochet to the exquisite • point lace. The prize-money is well and evenly allocated, and competitors' have ample encouragement in this respect. Guinea prizes are given in bread„ : scones, family cake, Madeira cake, biscuits, 1 rich' fruit cake, jellies, fruits and sauces; : and in fancy work—child's frock, cotton dress, muslin frock, table centre, embroidery, and carvings and oil paintings. • In all the 'other classes where the prize-money is-not specially mentioned the prize-money is 10s for first and 5s for second.
