SPURIOUE COINAGE.
By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.
Melbourne, November 1. The Mint authorities, who are gradually withdrawing half-crowns from circulation, recently received from a bank a consignment issued from another source than the Mint. Excepting a slight defect in the milling, the spurious coins are similar in make and value to the official production. Apparently the coiners are satisfied with the usual profit, which is a shilling to Is Od per coin. The issue is dated some years back.
COINERS ARRESTED.
Received 1, 5.5 p.m.
London, November 1
The gang of four coiners and forgers was remanded. Evidence was given of the discovery, at a house in Earl's Court, of a ten-pound note engraving plate, a watermark plate, and a quantity of unissued notes, counterfeit sovereigns and half-sovereigns, with moulds.
