THE OLYMPIC GAMES.
MEETING OF N.Z. COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the New Zealand Olympic Council was held this evening, when lengthy correspondence was received from London and Sydney regarding Malcolm Champion's expenses at the Olympic games at Stockholm. The chairman (Mr. A. Marryatt) said that the money collected in New Zealand had been sent to Mr. Arnold, secretary of the Olympic Council of Australasia. The New Zealand Council could not account for the hitch that had occurred, but as Captain Horniman (manager of the team) had arrived at Fremantle they would soon have his report to work upon. The hitch was due to 110 fault of the New Zealand Council. Certainly some of the trouble was caused through Champion's nomination being late. The Council decided to leave the matter in abeyance till Captain Horniman's report is received. The New Zealand Rowing Association wrote that as their members were not eligible to compete nt the Olympic Games they could not see their way to make a levy for the Olympic Fund. With reference to the proposal made by Dr. Collins to the Sports Protection League, regarding the British Empire team at the Olympic Games at Berlin, in 1910, the chairman said he had arranged to meet Dr. Collins next week and discuss the matter with him. A motion by Mr. Hill that New Zealand should become a separate nation at the Olympic Games was deferred until after the conference between the chairman and Dr. Collins. The annual meeting was fixed for November 27.
