A PERSISTENT ESCAPEE.
A DESPERATE CRIMINAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. ■Whangarei, Tuesday. The prisoner Huston, who was recaptured on Sunday night, wag brought to Whangarei yesterday. He again broke gaol last night. He was visited at 11.30, and then, apparently, everything was all right. He was thoroughly searched. His boots, braces and hat were taken from him. An examination of the cell showed marvellous ingenuity. A kauri floor an inch and a half thick was cut through, and then forced. The prisoner went through a space twenty inches by eight, under the cell, where he scraped the earth away and got free. After he had got out he visited McMahon's Hotel and stole a pair of boots from the corridor. He then visited the room of a boarder and took £3 10s, a pair of braces and a hat. The police are unable to give any'idea of what implement was used, but it appears to have been a knife or other sharp instrument. Huston is a desperate criminal, with several convictions in America and Australia. The police are making a vigilant search.
