THE MINE RE-OPENED. Bj Ofcble— Press Association—Copyrigkt. Hobart, October 29. The North Lyell shaft has been reopened. Smoke is issuing from it, but apparently in less increased amount. The vapor is carrying carbon monoxide. The shaft will be left open until there i? a perceptible change one way or the other. It is impossible to decide whether the fire is out. A definite indication is hoped for shortly. Work is progressing favorably at the company's Comstock mine. The ore from the Comstock, with the Tharsis and Mount Lyell mines, will keep the smelters employed until normal conditions are re-established. SYDNEY RELIEF FUND. Sydney, October 29.

A public meeting opened a relief fund for the sufferers of the Lyell disaster. Five thousand pounds will be raised in Sydney.
