THE MARTON DAM.
THE ENGINEER'S EXPLANATION. By TeUgraph.—Press Association. Marton, Saturday. Mr. Laiiig-Meason, consulting engineer, states that he made an inspection of the broken dam, but intended making a further one when the water in the vicinity was dammed off. He had no doubt that the cause of the trouble was at the point where the old pipes had been left in to drain off the water while the embankment was being constructed. Every precaution was taken at the time to concrete up these pipes, but with the pressure and the subsidence, the water there found a small leak underneath, which in turn caused the present break. If considered necessary, repairs could ibe carried out in about three months. He said the damage was not so serious as at first anticipated, and could be repaired for about £BOO. j
