FLOODING THE MINE. ®y Cable —Press Association—Copyright, Hobart, October 23. A conference of Mt. Lyell directors and mining inspectors decided that the only way to check the fire was to flood the mine. The stream deflected is poursing in 138,000 gallons daily, and it is anticipated a similar quantity is percolating' jnto the bottom levels. Brattices are placed on the outlets, practically sealing the mine. Relatives of the missing left in the mine will be advised ,when the bodies are recovered. At a.public meeting, at which the Governor and Premier were present, it ■was arranged to establish a general relief fund.
