PETROLEUM.
REFINERY PLANT ARRIVES TODAY. It is expected that the initial consignment of refinery plant, comprising 167 tons, for the Taranaki (New Zealand) Oil Wells, Ltd., will arrive at New Ply. mouth by boat to-day. Work in connection with the building of the refinery is proceeding apace. The concrete foundations for the stills have been completed, and the formation and (foundations are being proceeded with for the erection of the paraffine shed. The large building for carrying stores is juet about completed. The new rotary derrick at Moturoa is being put into place, and the machinery for it will arrive in a few days, having reached Wellington on Monday per s.s. Whakarua.
Good progress is being made with thedrilling at Bell Block.
A quantity of material for the refinery, including 34.000 fire-bricks, will be landed" at the breakwater to-day by the Taviuni. The local brickworks are also being kept busy fulfilling orders for the works. Large numbers of sight-seers continue to visit the works at Moturoa. Visitor* this week included Mr. Woods, of the Woods Peppermint Cure Co., who was. very favonrablv impressed with the prospects of the field. He showed his faith in the oil by aequirng a substantial interest in the company.
NO. 2 BORE VERY ACTIVE. Commencing on Monday night at 7.30' o'clock, No. 2 bore displayed srreat activity, perhaps as great as it has ever showed since it commenced to flow. The pressure continued throughout yesterday, and at a late hour last night waa v unabated, quantities of oil and silt being thrown by the well to a considerableheight.
