Mutton.—The market is rather quiet, but holders are not anxious to sell, in anticipation of moderate supplies coming forward. Canterbury 4vid, North Island 4y 4 d. Lambs.—The market is quiet, with a ■ tendency in favour of buyers. Supplies of home-grown lambs are 'heavy and are 'lowering'the prices of New Zealand. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury ,5%d. . . KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. ton Thursday, 10th inst,, I held my spring horse fair at the Waiwakaiho yards.,-,-Horses, were yarded up.to the advertised numbers and I had an excellent attendance of buyers from all parts. Mr.- J: Wbbldrjdge's carrying plant and hfirses'/.were a special entry, these selling very readily at from £l9 5s to £3O lOj foryoung waggoners, and from £ll 10s to £lO JOs for aged horses. The waggons did not obtain much enquiry. On account of other vendors: Unbroken half-draughts brought from £2O 10s to £2B 10s, heavy broken horses £2O 10s to £35 10s, good "spring carters £ls 10s to £l9 11??,,. gig.horses and hacks £9 10s to £l4, "aged horses up to £7 10s. The demand throughout was keen, very few pens being passed in. Store cows (about 150 yarded) and yearling cattle sold very readily. A very choice line of Jersey 15-months heifers entered by Mr. R. D. Harkness were much admired, realising, after good competition, £5 3s. A very nice line of 12s to 15-months steers realised £3 Bs, other yearling steers yarded being of very good quality. Prices obtained were: Colored 2-year heifers £5 2s to £5 18s and from £4 10s to £4 ISs, good grades from £4 2s G'd to £4 7s Od, small or poor £3 17s Gd, fat cows (small) £0 ,7s fid, forward cows £5 Is, to £5 13s, good-framed store cows (with good condition) £4 8s Cd to £4 15s, good store £3 17s fid to £4 4s, others £3 2s to 3 14s, boners up to £2 4s, choice 15-month Jersey heifers up to £5. 3s, good grades £2 19s to £3 153 fid, small £1 18s to £2 13s, best quality yearling steers £2 17s Gd to £3 Bs, others £2 Is fid to £2 16s, inferior £1 10s to £1 14s Od, 2-vear steers (very fair cattle) £4 10s Gd'to £4 145.. In the, dairy pens the quality of the springers'was not so good as at former sales, but a good number were cleared during the day as follows:—Rest heifers from £8 10s to £lO 2s Od, others £0 5s to £7 ss, and from £4 '2s Cd to £5 7s Cd, cowa £>G 17s 6d to £8 15s.
' At. Douglas on Monday I had a very good yarding of cattle and an improved attendance of buyers. Jn my Stony River yards on Wednesday tliere was a fair entry and a good attendance. A very nice line of 12 to 15-months steers were yarded by Mr. A. Gray, of Okato. These cattle were all by a purebred Shorthorn bull and were much admired, realising £3 10s, after keen competition. Mrs. Larkin's dairy cows were in rather rough condition, but met with excellent competition, bringing from £8 to £l3 fpr best and from £4 to £7 for aged. Other prices were: Yearling steers £2 8s 6d to £2 19s 6d, Shorthorn yearling heifers £3 3s 6d, grades £2 5s to £2 lis, mixed steers j and bulls £2, empty 2-year heifers (good J line) £4 6s to £4 16s, aged store cows ) £2 to £2 5s fid, cows £3 5s to £3 15s and £4 ss* to £4 14s for goodconditioned young cows, fat cows £6 15s, 2-year Holstein bulls (well marked) £l9 and £l2, grade Holstein bull £4 16s, yearling Shorthorn bulls £5, 3-yoar !
