MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Moa Eoad Board was held at Ingicwood on Saturday, where there were present: Messrs H. Trimble (chairman), A. Corkill, A. E. Laurence, M. Hopson, J. Williams,' J. Collingwood, A. Chard, G. A. Bridgeman and W. Jl Bishop. DEPUTATIONS. There was quite a plethora of deputations. Mr. A. B. Laird, who had written drawing the attention of the Board to the state of the King road, stating that he had on various occasions narrowly escaped accidents owing to the almost impassable state of portions of the road, also waited on the Board, and asked that the portions mentioned should be metalled and other work done. The road had, he remarked, received very little attention for some long time past. The chairman held out very little hope of all the work asked for being done, but his case would receive attention. Mr. Smith, a settler at the end of the Ratapiko road, asked the Board for some assistance in metalling the road. . He' was forty chains from the metal and intended to milk next year. He asked.the Board to metal about ten chains at least of a steep hill, either by loan or other-* wise. The road was, he said, in a shocking condition, but no doubt most of the' members had had experience of a mud road. He pointed out, too, that very little had.been done to the road, save aj little formation, which on a mud read was useless.

The chairman pointed out that in .the present state of the Government finances! it was difficult to raise a loan, but they would do the best they could. The ex-{ pense of metalling in that iocality was! also referred to, some members' es'timat-' ing it at about £l3 per chain, It was! also suggested that Mr. Smith, whose' property was also in the Stratford 1 county, to which body he paid the bulk! of his rates, should ask the Stratford' l County Council for assistance. ' Mr. Morrison also waited on the Board! and asked that something should done to the Kupara road. The chair-1 man, however, could hold out no hope I of any metalling being done this year,! as very little money was available fori l the road, as two years ago, when the last j 1 metalling was done, the rates had been | expended in advance. f

Mr. J. W. Harding asked if three chains of metal could be placed on the Norfolk! road, which would nearly join the twa j pieces of metal together.—Referred to i i Metal Committee. j j Mr. Wickstead (Kaimata) asked that' | something should be done to his road, as [ the metal was very thin near the June- f tion road.—Referred to Metal Committee. ( Messrs C. A. Simons, G. G. Simons, E. l| Nops and R. R: Fitzhorbert petitioned!! the Council and asked that steps should' be taken to raise a loan for metalling I the.Mangaotea road. : It was'resolved .to. apply loan, for this road.^Ee-1 ferred,to Meta] Committee'. • - •'■!■•;■■ : -' Mr. F,..p. The chairman reported that a committee of,four members had visited the Ngatoro bridge on the Bedford road; This had been placed in the wrong place, and it would be necessary to spend £SO or £6O to lengthen it to make a permanent job. It was decided to take no action at present.

A special order was passed raising the additional 10 per cent, ( £150) on the £ISOO Upland road loan. The Taranaki County Council forwarded ; particulars of the estimated cost of the culverts at the Durham and Junction roads, and at the Norfolk and Mountain roads. The Board agreed to the Durham and Junction road culvert, but required further information re the other one.

The clerk of the Waitara West Road Board (Mr. W. B. Fusscll) wrote agreeing to transfer various sections on the Everett road to the Moa Road Board. It was resolved to ask the County Council to agree to the transfer. Messrs Weston and Weston, on behalf of Mr. Geo. Jordan, asked the Board to consent to the application lodged by their client to bring part of rural allotment 79, Tarnrutangi (affected by the King road deviation) under the provisions of the Land Transfer Act. —Left in the hands of the chairman, with power to act. It was resolved that the Kaimata North old account be separated and called Kaimata North, and the Junction with the Bristol East, and that it be called the Bristol East onward. The debit balance will be divided as per statement. The Bristol East and West road accounts will be amalgamated. A committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Chard, Bridgeman, Laurence and Corkill, was appointed to go into the metal requirements for the ensuing year, with power to call tenders.
