TRAFALGAR DAY.
(CELEBRATIONS IN LONDON. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 21, 2.25 p.m. London, October 20. Twelve hundred boys of the Naval Brigade paraded in Trafalgar Square. The Nelson column was elaborately decorated. The Wellington branch of the Navy College sent a wreath which was brought over in a block of ice. It attracted much attention.
CELEBRATED IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Flags were flown to-day from the public buildings, schools, business premises and shipping in celebration of the 107 th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. At several of the schools the children paraded and saluted the flag. A naval picture entertainment was. held in the afternoon at the King's Theatre, when fully five thousand children attended. Sir Joseph Ward, New Zealand president of the Navy League, emphasised that the celebration wns to do honor to the greatest admiral the British Navy ever knew, who made it possible for all people living under the British flag to be free, wherever they might be. The Navy League did not desire war, but was founded for the purpose of preserving peace for the people of to-day and the future, This evening the Mayor, Mr. D. McLaren, as president of the local branch of the Navy League, gave short addresses at several theatres.
Yesterday was the 107 th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. There was no public celebration at New Plymouth beyond mention of the occasion being made in the public schools.
