COOKING INVENTIONS

Some recent cooking inventions). it is pleasant to record,, are the inventions of women. Such a one is the kitchen cabinet, intended for country cottages, or for ladies who like to reserve special little cookery tasks for themselves (says a recent Gentlewoman). Of com-< pact form, giving plenty of table room, these cabinets have places for practically every material needed for cooking. In a small space they manage to secrete roomj cupboards, a table, many shelves, and a great number of large andi small: drawers, all of which, when opened fall ! out to the exa/ct angle at which it is most convenient to survey and select from their contents. Another is a gas cooker which only requires an ordinary gas ring at the end!of a flexible tuba. It' has an oven big enough for a large tart and a 71b joint (it will bake bread and: cakes perfectly), a boiler to hold a gallon, a hot plate, several saucepans, and a kettle. It measures 2ft by Ift by 1% 'ft or thereabouts, according to the model chosen. It will cook a dinner for ten for l.y a d. It costs-from XI to £3, and' it is an English invention. An English, lady is responsible for an easy and inexpensive method of ventilating rooms, by which open windows may be enjoyed without draught, fog, damp, or dust,. or any other impurity entering with the air. This has already been adopted by many hospitals and private houses. It is a pretty device, too, unlike many hygienic inventions. Marvellous cleansing properties distinguish an inexpensive white powder whioli, in conjunction with a metal plate and hot water, does away in a minute or two of easy work with the whole trouble of silver cleansing and jewellery brightening. It will clean practically anything in the same quick and, easy manner.
