FARMERS' UNION.
TARAXAKI PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE The monthly meeting of the Tiranaki provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at liawera o:\ Thursday. Present: Messrs J. David-<>:i (president). E. MaxwelT, R. Lamliie. F. J. Virgin, G. Capper, J. Thompson, D. J. Willis, G. H. Buckeridge, J. Swindlehurst and R. Dunn. Apologies for absence were received from and leave granted toMessrs S. Forsyth, A. Hunter, H. Buxton and E. Marfell. PROPOSED CO-OPERATIVE FREEZING WORKS. Letters conveying resolutions on the proposed co-operative freezing works were received irom the Opunake, Auroa and' Patea branches. The Opunake branch, whilst approving the co-opera-tive principle, thought that the present works at Waitara and Patea were sulli-
cient to deal with all surplus stock for some time to come. The Auroa and Patea, branches were of opinion that if the Patea co-operative freezing works were supported there would be no need for another freezing works at present. , Mr. Washer said that the question of establishing receiving depots had been brought up and discussed at his (Patea) branch. It was thought' that if the Patea Company had convenient depots in various parts of the district farmers would readily send their surplus stock to them. A director of the company had assured him that the question of receiving depots would be considered and in all likelihood given effect to. Mr. ;Maxweli said as the branches were evidently against new works he thought there "was no necessity for further action in the matter, and he moved that no farther action be taken in the proposal to establish new freezing works. As regards jthe question of depots it should apply tb works other than. Patea. At' present, -on Recount of distance, ;i farmeT could mot cffliveniently take his stock to the works, but had to take them to the nearest salevards and take what price the dealer liked to give him. Mr.| Capper said the opinion of farm' ers in| his district was that depots should be established. ' MrJ Virgin thought it would be a bad thin";for farmers if the Patea works got hands of a private company, and farmers should support it. Mr] Buckeridge said he" had undertaker] to make a systematic canvass of the district on behalf of support for the Pateij Company, and he knew that the j depoli question would be considered. He would hav9 . more information at next meeting, and'he'moved that further .consideration of this, question be held over till njext meeting. Mr! Dunn seconded the motion, which was tarried.I • .
