TWO BURGLARIES. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 18, 10.15 p.m. Sydney, October 18. Lady Manning was awakened by a burglar in her bedroom, and screamed. The intruder bolted, taking a £OO diamond ring. Parkes, landlord of the Captain Cook Hotel, and an invalid, was roused by a man in the room where his attendant, Healy, was sleeping. He blew a whistle and roused his attendant. The burglar fired a bullet, piercing Parkes' forearm and breaking the skin over his heart. He then turned the revolver on the attendant, wounding him in the leg. The wound is not serious. The burglar then bolted. Nothing is missing. A youth named Roberts has been arrested on a charge of attempting to murder Parkes and Healy.
