ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BLASTING ACCIDENT AT MOKAU. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Mokau, Thursday. Two men, named C. Guilson and Jack Lundy, engaged in road work at the Kiwi Road, Okau, were badly injured this morning as the result of a blasting accident. The charge blew out of an adjacent drill, and fell into a keg of powder, where the men were standing. Both the injured men, after having their injuries dressed, were conveyed to the Now Plymouth Hospital.
RUN OVER BY A TRUCK. Wfliangarei, Thursday. John Nertsich, an Austrian, 20 years of age, whilst putting trucks into a ballast pit on the Public Works at Otira, had his leg, run over by a truck and badly fractured. He was taken to Kawakawa, where the leg was amputated, and he is now being brought to the Whangarei Hospital. He is making satisfactory progress. TRAIN EXAMINER KILLED. Dunedin, Last Night. Norman Wesley Ilelmsley, a young man employed as train examiner on the railways, met with a. sudden death in the goods yards about 3 o'clock this afternoon. It appears that Helijisley was standing on some trucks which were being shunted towards him. Apparently he failed to notice his danger, and was knocked down by a truck, The train was at once stopped, but the first truck had run over him, cutting him badly.' He was dead when picked up. The deceased w?s 27 years of age, and resided at Mornington with his mother.
