THE OLYMPIC GAMES.
THE SPORTING SPIRIT. By Cable—Press Association—C*pyrig!ht London, October 0. Mr. Vicary Horniman, in a letter to the Daily Mail, says that some of Middleton's utterances regarding the Otympic Games were so ungentlenianly that he was sure English sportsmen would do Australians the credit of believing that a man who had so far forgotten himself would be most severely censured in Australia. As leader of the Australian team, he tenders the sincerest apology for Mr. Middleton's rude comments, and much regrets Mr. Middleton's disloyalty to the object nearest the hearts of the organisers of the team, namely, that the visit should reflect credit on Australia and New Zealand. He hopes that the team will be remembered by its actions, unmanned by Mr. Middleton's utterances, he not being a proper person to speak for Australia.
