A London cablegram states that Mr. Dillon's condition is not serious. Mr. Wm. Slaughter has been appointed Inspector of Scaffolding for the Taranaki industrial district. Some doubt appears to exist as to tin 1 date Labor Day falls on. The local branch of the Labor Department state.-; that the date is the fourth Monday of thi6 month, viz., October 28. It is reported that the failing health of Sir William Steward, now in his sev-enty-second year, is causing some anxiety to his friends. Tie is suffering from an old-standing throat trouble.
