GISBORNE BOROUGH AFFAIRS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Thursday. • There was great interest in the Borough Council proceedings on Tuesday night. Ah amendment by Mr. Collins "that the engineer tie asked to resign" was rejected, and the Mayor's motion carried by eight to two, "that tlie Council is of opinion that there is no valid reason to be adduced that would lead them to withdraw their confidence in the borough engineer." The Mayor spoko very highly of the engineer's work.
THE AWANUI SAFE. Auckland, Thursday. The schooner Awanui, ■which is overdue on her voyage from Gisborne to Mercury Bay, has been reported off the Great Barrier.
