THE POSITION IN WALES,
By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, October 1. A conference of the Miners' Federation, representing six hundred thousand, is being held at Swansea. Mr. Smellie, in his presidential address, said that the mine owners were better off than before the strike. Legislation had added threepence or fourpence per ton, but prices had risen Is 6d to 2s. The public could only be protected by State ownership. He favored an international organisation on the lines of syndicalism.
WHEN GREEK MEETS GREEK. Received 2, 10.45 p.m. London, October 2. A hundred operatives at the Piam Mill, Oldham, have struck. The masters have notified the immediate issue of writs.
