THE CHURCH CONGRESS.
LABOR AND CAPITAL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 2, 12.40 a.m. London, October 1. At the Church Congress at Middlesborough the Archbishop of York said that the keynote of the Congress would be the churches' appeal to the industrial millions against industrial unrest. There had been much violence, rancour and mischievous talk, yet he saw an honest desire for more decent lives among the workers. It was the churches' business to see that the rights of capital and labor were defended and to insist that neither neglected its duties. Labor had the right to seek shorter hours, higher wages and strengthen the trade union bond, but it must work harder in shorter hours to honestly earn its higher wages.
