'(Conducted by "Eileen.") '<. The fates were kind to the Library Committee in that-the one- fine'inight. this week was Thursday, the date of their annual entertainment. Notwithstanding the fact that several perform- ' ers failed to attend, a fair programme" was submitted. The vocalists.were Mesdames Kibby and Ramage and Messrs. Nippcrt, Lovell, Wilkie and JolL Mrs. Arnold George's orchestra rendered several items in a most artistic manner, and their bright and tuneful music was highly appreciated by the - audience. Messrs. Nippert and Lovell made, their first appearance at Tikorangi; and were well received. The former is the possessor of a strong, ricb voice/and his fine rendering of somewhat difficult numbers met with well merited encores. ''Messrs. Lovell aiul Wilkie supplied the comic element, Mr. Lovell's parodies'of the" Village Blacksmith, Casa-Bianc'a" and' Excelsior being exceptionally good. 1, Mr. Wilkie caught on wit'h''tlve". r t'h(f '"gods," but he .was heard to better advantage on hi» previous visit. 'Mrs! Kibby,'who has a sweet voice,"c'ari ffTways.'count"ion a good reception a,t ■Tikorangi^-arid .■she had to respond to the ealls ,p| heraudlence, whilst Mrs. Ramage's rendering of" such songs as "Bonnie DundfJe;,?, 1 ! Lomond" and "The Keel rapturously appealed to those whoihailed 'from "the "Land of the Brown Heath." The accompaniments were played 'by Mrs, A. George, whose orchestra also provided excellent music for the dance, and the committee desire to especially thank her for the kindness and assistance' which they have ever received at her hands.
The roads arc.getting in a 'deplorable state, owing to the continued -wet,.ihbse of the Waihi riding beingr especially -so. The leasehold tenure of most of the land in that riding absolutely precedes the. raising of a loan to metal the .bye-roais, for the result would, be, settlers would not only have to pay- the special fate, but high rents by 'Virtue of being on a metalled road, and yet demagogues in Parliament can be found 'supporting the leasehold tenure.
