FIRES.

DARGAVILLE HOUSE BURNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dargaville, Yesterday. A six-roomed house on the estate owned by Dr. Fox at Tangitiroria was completely destroyed by fire at 1 o'clock yesterday morning. Nothing was saved, Dr. Fox and four other occupants had a narrow escape, and had to walk barefooted through the wind and rain for two and a half miles to seek accommodation. The house is insured in the Queensland office, but the amount is unknown.

A POST OFFICE DESTROYED.

Rotorua, Mondar.

A five-roomed dwelling at Okere, the property of the Government, and occupied by the electrical engineer, was destroyed by lire last night, together with the post office .attached. Very little furniture was saved, and the whole of the contents of the post office were de-j stroyed. The destruction of lines is interfering with telegraph communication with the Bay of Plenty. Very little mail matter -was burnt. Mr. and" Mrs. Bell, the occupiers, were absent at the time. The building was insured. The cover on the furniture is unknown.
