There was a great crowd at the Stadium to witness the opening rounds of the £IOOO tug-of-war contests. In the internatioir.il events, Scotland beat Ireland, and Fitzpatrick's Australian team beat Ilackenburg's Australian team. In the all-comers championship the New Zealand Drivers' Union downed the Sawmill Employees.
