FOOTBALL
VISIT OF THE OTAGO FOOTBALL TEAM. Messrs Spencer Sander and Victor G. Cavanagh, managers of the Otago touring team, write to the editor of the News as follows: "We were very much surprised to read that disparaging reference had been made to the manner in which the Otago football team were treated in Hawera, and take this early opportunity of strongly contradicting any such remarks. Unlimited hospitality was extended to us during our visit, especially by Mr. O'Dea. who, we understand, is the only member of the Tariinaki Rugby Union resident in Hawera, and every member of our team embarked for Auckland with feelings of regret that we were leaving Taranaki. We consider that the article above referred to must have been written by someone who was not conversant with the facts, hence our desire to speedily remove an unwarranted stigma from the gentlemen in Hawera who were instrumental in making our stay a pleasant one."
