A very large "send-off social" was accorded liic Rev. Father Maples (who has been transferred to Stratford) by members of the Petone Roman Catholic community on Wednesday evening. On Tuesday evening, at Manaia, Mr. F. Archer, lately engineer to the Waimate North County Council, was presented with a handsome dressing-case on his departure for the South Island.
Sir George Clifford, a director of the London Board of the Taranliki Oil Wells, Limited, arrived in New Plymouth last evening, and confers to-day •with the local board on matters all'eeting the Company's operations.
Mr. Frank Hutc-hens left ITawera on Monday for Christchurch and Creymouth where he is to give pianoforte recitals. 'Those will probably complete .his engagements in New Zealand, and next year lie will most likely.make .a tour of Australia.
A Dannovirke telegram states that Henry Carlson, one of J)annevirke*s first resident* and a pioneer of the sawmilling industry in that district, passed away in Auckland yesterday morning. Deceased leaves a widow and a grown' up family, lie had been ailing some lime and went North in search of health.

T.tinit-deii. touring manager of (he "Tiny Town"' Company, arrived in New Plymouth last night to make arrangements for the appearance of the Company in the Theatre Uoyal on Thursday next.
