ENGINEERS' AWARD.

The Federal Arbitration Court award for marine engineers fixes the range of pay from £22 per month for chiefs, £l7 10s for second engineers. £ls 10s for third engineers on vessels under 100-borse-power. to £32 for chiefs. £22 for seconds, £lB for thirds, £ls for fourths and £l2 for others, for vessels of 450-horse-power. Overtime will be reckoned when on duty iu port or at sea, or partly in port and partly at sea after eight hours, and when actually in port from seven in the morning to live in the evening. This dors not apply to chiefs, or to vessels having less than three engineers. Overtime pay to be at the rate of 2s Gd per hour, with 5s for chiefs. This applies to Sundays and holidays. Engineers are not asked to keep watch excepting in an unsafe port. or where the stay in port is less than E4 hours. After nine months' service chiefs are entitled to 21 days', other enpincers to 14 days' leave on full pay. When the vessel is out of commisison and the engineers' services are utilised for fitting or any other services, they shall receive full sea pay. The award will have a duration of five years. It includes the Union Company and the Huddart-Parker Company. The award applies to vessels engaged in inter-State trade, the Court reserving consideration whether it should be made binding and to what extent, on other vessels.
