CIRCULAR ROAD RACE.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Circular Road Race Committee, over which Mr. E. Whittle presided, was held last evening. In congratulating those present on tha success of this year's race, the Chairman said that there would be a credit balance of £53 odd. The total receipts were £224 (is 7d. He expressed appreciation of the splendid response made .by the public to the Committee's appeal for funds. The Entertainment Committee was also deserving of praise for the manner in which they had raised funds through various sources. In speaking optimistically of the future, Mr. Whittle dwelt upon the splendid advertising medium afforded the town and the district by such an important cycling event. Tke honorary secretary (M*r. Jas. McLeod) was to be heartily thanked for his services. In the speaker's opinion it 'would pay the Committee in all future races to secure the services of an energetio man, and pay him to conduct the secretarial work. The next race would ba sufficiently large to justify this arrangement.
It was decided to forward a letter t« the Taranaki Jockey Club thanking it) for the use of the racecourse on the day, of the race. The annual general meeting was fixed for the first week in March. The action of the Protest Committee in _ dismissing, two protests received, which arose out of the race, was unanimously endorsed. Mr. Whittle gave notice to move that the rules be altered in the direction ol compelling each' rider dropping out to report himsef to headquarters pep medium to the nearest telephone or telegraph station. The Oarrison Band was 'heartily thanked for its services, and the matter of recognising its gratuitous work was left in the -hands of the Entertainment Committee.
The .action of the Committee was also endorsed in making a donation of £5 t« the Roland' Hall Committee. The balance-sheet showed a credit of some £33. The princiual receipts were:] Entertainment Committee,, £64 12s 9<l; ; donations, £OO 7s; nomination fees. £3l 73 6d;'gate receipts, £37 Is 6d. The expenditure included prize money to the amount of £l2l lis, and accounts aggregating £4O odd. The donations included the following amounts, additional to those already published: Motor Supplies / Company, £ls 15s; W. F. McAllum, £2 - 2s-; T. Knowles, £2; W. C. Phillips, £1 1: Dentists' Association (per Mr. A. McDiarmid), £1 Is; Levin and Co. (per Mr. C. Broilie), £1 Is; "J. H. White, £1 Is; L. Keith, £1 Is; G. W.
