SPRING FASHIONS.
AMBUHF'S MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY.
GREAT ARRAY OF MILLINERY
Ambury's groat annual spring display of fashions, opening this morning, eclipses any previous "effort. The magnificent array of millinery' in every conceivable shape and most beautiful and artistic blending of colors would be very hard to beat south of the line. The firm's London and Continental buyers, being early on the markets, have 'beeja nble to secure the pick of the many newfangled fashions in vogue this season. Some charmingly exquisite Parisian models are on view in the show-rooms, and they include many new and captivating departures. Numerous dainty oriental «o*fections are also being shown, in the shape of bows, bands and trimmings. Entering the showrooms, one is confronted with an almost bewildering maze of headgear of all shapes and sizes', the variety being seemingly endless. All are displayed, however, to the best advantage, so much so that even the interest or curiosity of mere man might easily I be aroused. Among other modes, Am. bury's are featuring "lancers" in various hues, and no fashion or mode has been I overlooked. At first blush, .some of these products of the milliner's art would appear to be so delicate in texture as to melt with the first ray of sunshine, but put to the test they will be found as serviceable as they are dainty. The season opens with the large spreading shapes in Tagels, line chip and leghorn, with the handsome lancers', plumes (black, white and colored), large jet cabashons, life-like flowers, fancy ribbons, oriental bows, bands and * shot silks, which constitute the leading trimmings, while various small shapes, including the "Sunshine Girl," the "New Boater" and the "American Sailor," make up a charming variety of useful styles, suitable to every taste. Some of the dainty models include the everfavorite picture hat, in black tagcl. with black lancer plumes and jet cabashons, ▼hite tagel and white lancers, and black tagel with white lancers, grey tagels with grey lancers. The new fuchsia, colorings .(purple and cerise), fine "chip and tagel with flowers to match, hay, putty and the new sand shades with colored ribbon bows, clusters and wreaths of daintiest flowers, white chip with black velvet bands and flowers in gold, saxe blue chip with colored sweet peas, white chip with colored veiled crown and wreath of small roses, cerise and grey chip with clusters of flowers and satin bands to m'atcli, navy tagel with clusters of large roses and velvet bands, reseda chip with large bows of shot ribbon, hay chip with bunches of ripe cherries, putty straw with silk ruching and clusters of shaded poppies, and great variety in black and white. There is a splendid variety of children's millinery for children of all ages. The show is not confined to millinery alone, handsome black charmeuse coats, cream silk fete coats, and costumes in variety being on display. In addition, there is the choicest collection of frockettes and onepiece dresses ever shown in New Plymouth, including colored charmeuse, colored shantungs, tussore silks, cream crepe de chine, colored voiles, embroidered voiles, very handsome white embroidered and lace dresses, colored cashmere embroidered, a splendid variety in plain and fancy washing frocks, and every conceivable shade in the new satin underskirts in various qualities, lis lid to Sss each, special lines in mercerised kilts, mention must be made of a charming variety in blouses, muslin, embroidered, silk chiffon, crepe dc chine, "'veiled" with handsome oriental collars, and the useful American shirt and kimona styles, not forgetting handsome black skirts and a variety of useful skirts for golf, tennis and street wear, in black, cream and colors. The dress fabrics include the new poplins., khantonas, taffetas, crepes, tussores, silk stripe voiles, and great variety of washing materials, and a full runge of shantung silks and colored charmeuse. Sunshades, hosiery, neckwear, Dents gloves and underclothing are also in great variety. Incidentally there is an extensive array of men's summer headgear, for men also have their fashions, their likes and their dislikes.
