FIRES.
COTTAGE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Taihape. Monday. , A fire totally destroyed a four-roomed cottage and its contents, owned and occupied by Mr. Baird, manager- of the Mamuvatu Company'* sawmill. Mr. Baird had only recently married. The furniture, which was valued at £220, and was all lost, was uninsured. The cottage was insured for £72 in the New Zealand Fire O/lice. There was no one in the house after the early mornThe fire was discovered about mid-day, but it had then got too far to effect salvage.
FIRE AT FOXTOX. Palmerston North, .Monday. Another blaze took place at F'oxton yesterday morning, when two shops wore completely destroyed, P: Rimmer's store and a Chinese fruiter's. Rimmer's was an old but large building, and .was ablaze when discovered. The tire soon spread to the Chinese shop and gutted the building. Whyte's Hotel, 'which was menaced by the two previous fires, was again in trouble, but though the walls were scorched and the windows cracked, no further damage was done. r .l lie insurances were -Rimmer's store.
