THE COAL VEND.
ANTI-TRUST LEGISLATION.
By Cable—Press Association—Copyright,
Melbourne, September 23. Commenting on the judgment in the Vend case. Mr. Hughes, Commonwealth Attorney-General, sarcasticallv said that it was perfectly clear that' anti-trust legislation was of no service against a combination of capital such as we imagine dominates the world to-day. The judgment shows how very much we were in. errdr. There are no trusts in Australia, and no combinations in restraint of trade, nothing "done to the detriment of the public. It was almost worth all the trouble and expense to have this great fact clearly demonstrated. The coal and shipping combines can now take an honored place with the Beef Trust of America.
Mr. Fisher did not think there was any possibility of an appeal to the Privy Council.
