ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FOUND DROWNED. By Telegraph—Press Aaeociation. Wellington, Last Night. The body of William Roberts, a sear man on the steamer Opawa, who has been missing since the evening of September 12, was found last night at the wharf, near where the. vessel is lying. Deceased was about sixty years old. Th# body was in a fairly free)* state considering the length of time it had Been in the water, and was fully clothed. A SUDDEN DEATH. Dunedin, Last Night. The police have received advice that Donald McLennan, aged 32 years, died suddenly at Rock and Pillar last evening. Deceased, who .was single, had been rabbiting with a mate, but had not been long in the district. He had been attended by a doctor several months ago.
A BODY FOUND. Gisborne, Last Night. The body of an elderly man, named Kenneth Matthews alias Matheson, was found in the Turanganui River this morning. The man had been dead for some days. SUICIDE AT AWAKINO. STRANGE ALLEGATIONS. The New Plymouth' police received word last night that J. R. Sigley, aged about 05 years, shot himself on Saturday night at Awakino with a pea-rifle. He is supposed to have been affected by being ostracised by Awakino residents on account of the allegation that he gave information to the police leading to a seizure of liquor. The allegation weighed, considerably on his mind. An inquest will be held at a later date.
