Representative farmers at Spalding, including the 'ex-chairman of the Liberal Association, have been fined half a crown on each summons for evading the Insurance Act. They pleaded that the Act was illegal, because members of the House of Commons had not sought reelection after passing the Payment to Members Bill. THE SINGLE TAX. Received 18, 9.40 p.m. London, September 18. Mr. Ure, speaking at Linlithgow, said that he was dead against the single tax, because it implied a repeal of all others except the licensing duty, and exempted millions of well-to-do people from contribution to the needs of the Stat*.
