! EXCITING STRUGGLE IN' MELBOURNE. FIVE GIRLS TO THE BESCUE. HAND-TO-HAND ENCOUNTER. Melbourne, September S Another burglar, James Crowley, was captured under exciting and singular circumstance's' at the residence of Mrs M. Feelian, Sylvetta, The Avenue, I'arkville, early this morning. Shortly before 4 o'clock Mrs Feelian was aroused by hearing somebody in her room. She noticed from the light of the moon, which was shining through the window, that a man was walking stealthily about, and looking in all the drawers. Being afraid to scream, Mrs Feelian could only watch the intruder turning over the valuables, and after he -had been in her room for about ten minutes, he ■departed into another room, where several of Mrs Feehan's daughters wop.' sleeping. Mrs. Feelian hurried out of bed and awoke her son James. The, latter ■began groping about in the dark looking for the intruder, who could not be found for some time until loud screams from "4h» girls' room announced that he had been seen turning over their wardrobe. Mr Feehan atul another younger brother (lashed into the room, but the burglar, who was without boots, slipped past and down the stairs. Then an exciting hunt for the burglar -followed. The two boys led the way down stairs; "and 'close in their wake went Mrs Feelian and 'her five daughters, who aro.iine stamps of the athletic type fof girl. The intruder was seen to endeavor to open the front door, but he disappeared- into the hall. After the party had been unsuccessfully searching for a few minutes one of the girls looked under the ball table with a candle, and there she disclosed the form of the burglar crouched in a corner. He was immediately called out by the two bovs, who with'the aid of the five girls and Mrs Feehan, had him safely captured. The-.police were then communicated with and. the sorrowful burglar was given into tilieir "cii's't'odv. He 'iwas;,' brought -before..the Carlton Court subsequently; and remanded until Wednesday: - ■ Mrs Feelian,'when interviewed, laughed heartily at-the incident, and said it was an amusing " though most serious sight to see 'her sons and daughters effecting the capture. "The intruder had 110 weapon,'' added Mrs, Feelian, "and it was purely a hand-to-hand encounter. But fortunate]}' niy side had most hands, and. we won .handsomely."
