THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP By Telegraph.—Press Association. | Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand golf championship meeting opened to-day on the Heretaunga links. The weather was dull, with light showers and a boisterous northerly wind, preventing any sensational scoring. The greens were rather dead, owing to rain on Saturday and on Sunday evening. Competitors were present from all parts of the Dominion, practically all the front-rank players tak- v ing part. Arthur Duncan, th« present' ' open and amateur champion, was not in the irresistible form he showed at Wanganui last year. B. B. Wood, from Christehurch, played with deadly accuracy, and was favorite. H. B. Lusk, from Christehurch, did not seem so consistent as of yore. Burns and others represented Auckland, and among the Hawke's representatives were Kurepo and Kapi Tareha. Taranaki, Manawatu and Wairarapa were all represented. The sensation of the day was the collapse of the champion in the second round. The scores in the open championship of New Zealand, are as follows:
Thorburn, D. Strang, Horton, Seymour, L. Seifert, 11. Gillies, Gore, Wellwood, Burge, Abbott, Bewley and A. Gillies did not hand in cards for the second round.
