Sir George Reid, while addressing the British Empire Association of Chicago, pleaded for Anglo-Saxon peace. He said Australia had never had bloodshed and never expected to have it. Tf the United States had been born three hundred years before it actually was. it would have annexed everything possible. There would never be bloodshed between Britain and the United States, or Australia and the United States. He hoped they would become more closely united, thus making everything better for the Western Hemisphere. Mr. Elwood Mead urged Government ownership of public utilities and the conservation of the country's natural resources. Australia's ideal was collective efficiency, opposing America's ideal of individual liberty and efficiency. Australia's successful incursion into Stateowned industrial undertakings was leading to constant extensions^
