Major Hope attributes the result of the election to a desire for an amendment of the Insurance Act rather than a dislike of Home Rule or Disestablishment. The Liberals bitterly comment on the folly of the Laborites in presenting the »eat to the Unionists. Mr. Churchill, speaking at Dundee, •aid thaf no split vote at bye-elections and no Tory abuse would prevent the Government passing the Home Rule and Insurance Bills. They might be improved in detail, but they were irrevocable, because they were indispensable to the twelve million policies already alive.
