The Rugby representative match, Wanganui v. Otago, was played to-day in line weather. The ground was in capital order. Otago won by nineteen points to three.

THE LEAGUE GAME N.S.W. v. HAWKE'S BAY. Napier, Last Night. There is beautiful weather for the Hawke'3 Bay v. New South Wa'e3 match. Considerable interest was created in town by- the action of certain Rugby officials in regard to the special stand erected for the North v. South Island match. The Rugby Union offered the League the use of the stand at v, hat was considered an exorbitant figure, and ! failing agreement, the Rugby official's [ dismantled the stand and carted the timber away. The League officials starred | work at midnight, and, helped by t,he visiting team and many residents whose sympathy with Rugby has been alienated | by the ill-advised tactics of the few, and S re-erected the stand, and it was completed long before the match started. , The dog-in-the-manger attitude of liic I union is very generally condemned.

Napier, Last Night,

In the presence of a crowd of some 3000 people the League game, New South Wales v. Hawke's Bay, was played on the Recreation Grounds to-day in splendid weather. The exhibition of the visitors was in miny respects a revelation, and although they won by a large margin the score hardly indicates the nature of the game. The local men put up a surprisingly good fight against the Buperior combination of the visitors, and their tackling was remarkably good. The game was remarkably free from any element of roughness, and was played in an admirable spirit throughout. The score at half-time was: New South Wales 18, Hawke's Bay 3. Tries were scored lor the visitors by Gleeson,' David (2), and Cann, Frawley converting three, and Johnson scored for Hawke's Bay. ;In the second spell, Dean, Frawley (3), Gleeson and McOue scored tries for the visitors, Fravley converting three of them. Cotterall and "Genner" Smith scored for tha home team, but neither try was converted. The final score was: I New South Wales 42, Hawke's Bay 9. jMr. D. McCarthy teiereed. Haddocks [and McGregor sustained minor injuries during the game, and Thompson had [his collarbone broken. Manning [.(Hawke's Bay) had. to retire owing to a I broken thumb.
