CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
|(Frora our own correspondent.) Ajmeeting of this executive of the Inglewioqd Chamber of Commerce was held last night in the secretary's office. Prcsjent: Messrs. (!■. W. Bennett (president, in the (hair), \Y. E. Percival (vicepresident), Messenger ,McLean, Robert.-.. Spui'dle. Thomson and Buckley ('lion secretary). Mr:'-Roberts took his place on the sxeeutive for the first time, and was fo'rn ally welcomed by the president. The president present2d the report of the sub-committee, set up at last ineetinoto real with the Land Agents Bill, as follows: "As requested, we have care-; I fully njoiie into'the matter of the proposeirl Land Agents Bill, and we would I re'eoinniend the follo-.viiiT amendments I and ialterations: Clause 1. to remain: [Sec. |2, clause 2, that each member of a I firm! must be registered, and that the I fee Sihall otily entitle three members of any i one firm to act as agents for the firm; unless a further fee is paid, the I proposition being one licensee to three I menjbers of any one firm; clause 3 to J remain; clause. 4. sec. 1 and 2. to rcjmain; sec. 3, that the* license shall be £2O per annum; clause 9, to be altered as fallows: At Uie date of the completion; of the purchase of any sale of land (by |a land agent) the said agent shall render to flhe person or his agent on w-hofce behalf the sale Ihas been made, an account in writing of all monies received l)v him in respect of sucli sale and of the ; application thereof, and shall, at the *date of completion, pay to the said person the balance (if any) of such monies as provided in the last preceding section, but the agent shall be entitled to his commission as soon as the deposit is paid and tihe agreement to purchase is signed by both purchaser and vendor; new clause: Every land agent must have an established office, and the same shall be registered and show the sign, Li- , censed Land Ageiit,' exposed to public i view.'"
A resolution was passed adopting the report, and instructing the secretary to forward a copy of same to the chairman of the Lands Committee of the House of Representatives.
Mr. Roberts mentioned that there was I a considerable amount of money sent out of the town liv country ;>nd townspeople for goods ordered by them from mail houses, and referred to the want of loyalty on the part )f those people in not | supporting their own town. Members • agreed that there was cause for comj plaint by the tradespeople, but considered f , no action could be taken by the Gham)ber.
Mr. Messenger brought up the question ol a uniform scale of commercial charges, and considered that the Chamber should adopt a scale of charges that could bo recommended to tlie business people, and so mike such charges uniform. A sub-com:iiittec, consisting of Messrs. Bennett, Gibbs and Messenger, was appointed to draw up a set of commercial charges and report to the next meeting of toe exeritive. • Mr. T. A. Kennedy was elected a member of the Chamber.
The final for the champions'iio of the Inglewood Golf Club took pla.;j on Friday last, between H. J. M- Inomstn and A. J. Law, and res'il'; .'d in a win for A. J. Law, 2 up and 1 to iday, after a very close and exciting game.
There is a rumor afloat that :i local syndicate is endeavoring to engage the Parish Hall, for four nights A. weak to run a pioture show. If t.iiiy ar.s successful, what is Inglewood to do ;cr a hall for entertainments ? It is time Inglewood people woke up to the fact that a town hall is a necessity.
A special meeting of the directors of the Moa Dairy Company was held on Saturday last. The Kaimata Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Ltd., wrote, saying that their company had applied for the word "Kaimata" as a brand for their cheese. The Director of Dairy Produce replied that it would be necessary to obtain the consent of the Moa Dairy Company. The directors decided that as they may be requiring an additional brand to ''Tnglewood" at some future time i they could not see their way to give up their registered brand, "Kaimata." His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Gibbs, Tarple-e and the town clerk waited on the Board re supplying electric power to the company. It was decided to accept the offer of the Borough Council for the supply of electric potver for the factory for three years at 2d per unit, 'ess a discount of %d for cash, with a minimum charge of £175 per annum.
