C.IXTERBURY (2) v. TARAXAKI (0)
Christchurcli, Last Night. The following were the teams:—Canterbury B. (black): Goal, Miss Osborne; bucks, JJisses L. Chamberlain and MeLachlan; halves, Misses M. McMillan, H. Chamberlain and Ronnie; forwards Misses E. McMillan, X. McLachlan, L. MeLachlan, Scott and Chamberlain Taranaki (black): Goal, Miss Aiken; backs, Misses Lynskey and Andrews; halves, Misses Johnson, Andrews and Perm; forwards, Misses Law, Roberts, MeEwen, Cleaver and King. Canterbury set up an attack and Taranaki found the line. From the 25 bully the Taranaki forwards passed well and brought the' ball along, but the Canterbury backs never let it pass them, and the forwards again got possession, Taranaki once more lining out. Canterbury continued the attack, but shot over. From the*2s bully 'hot passing followed in niidfield. Taranaki were awarded a free hit for off-side play, and brought the ball to trieCanterbury circle, but the backs again relieved, and by good long passing play was quickly transferred to the other end. -There was a hot scramble in front of the Taranaki goal, and the latter team gave a corner to relieve. The Taranaki forwards got in a good run and brought play to the Canterbury circle, but the Canterbury girls worked it back. Some fast up-and-down play followed. From a throw-in Canterbury got going, passed well and reached ■ the circle, but Taranaki gave a corner. Canterbury continued to attack, and Taranaki gave another corner, followed by auother circle. Now the Canterbury forwards were weak, and they were unable to press home the advantage of their position. Taranaki at length broke away, and after some tussling play near the Canterbury circle the latter, Jby long passing and flying hits, brought the ball to the other end. Several ineffectual shots were made at the Taranaki goal, but the defenders resisted all attempts to score. Play at length opened up. Taranaki invaded the Canterbury circle, but the ball was rapidly returned. Another shot at the Taranaki goal as well stopped. Play was in Taranaki territory at half-time.
On resnming, after some mid-field play, Canterbury reached the Taranaki circle, where several attempts to shoot were made without success. Taranaki brought the ball back, but were again on the defensive. Shortly after their circle was reached, but Canterbury could not score. From the 25 bully Taranaki carried the ball along with a big rush up to the Canterbury circle and a corner was given. Their goal continued to.be attacked, and Canterbury were now busy defending. At length they broke away and reached the Taranaki circle, but again failed with the shooting. Taranaki'made a determined effort to score, and charged again and again. At length Canterbury worked the ball back and Miss L. McLachlaO scored the first goal of the match. (Cant tcrtmry 1, Taranaki 0). Play remained near the Taranaki circle, and after a short tussle in front of the goal Miss L. McLachlan scored again. (Canterbury 2, Taranaki 0). Canterbury continued the attack and Taranaki gave a couple of corners. Their circle was still being invaded when time was called, the match ending—Canterbury 2, Taranaki 0.
