A lad start was made, Spooner being lowled before double figures were reachid. Mead and Rhodes added 31 for he second wicket, and Rhodes and Jenton 41 for the third. The feature >f the innings was the stand made by ;he tail, Haigli and Relf adding 130 'or the ninth wicket. Rhodes batted n masterly style for 135 ininutes. Relf ,vas missed before he had scored, by Carkeek, and at 78 in the deep field by smith. He played brilliantly towards the close of his innings.
