EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. A STARTLING AMERICAN BIOGRAPH PICTURE. A complete change of pictures will be shown at thp Empire this afternoon and again to-niglit. The chief attraction of an exceptionally brilliant collection is a sensational dramatic subject by the always popular American Biograph Co., "A Beast at Bav," featuring the charming and versatile young actress, Miss Mary Piekford. "A Beast at Bay" is the limit of sensational photo-play and withal it is a healthy sensationalism, that grips the onlooker as in a vice. Imagine a whole railway system being held up in order that an express engine may be chartered to pursue a flying automobile, and you will gain some idea of the hair-raising intensity of this picture. Closely following this A.B. feature is a Vitagraph life portrayal, "The Telephone Girl." The thrilling experience of a telephone girl, who sticks to her posts in a burning building until everybody gets out safely, is fine. Cupid plays a part, and the brave girl is rescued by her sweetheart, a young fireman. Other dramatic studies are "Home Folks," another A.B. feature and a modern and thoroughly original picture play by the Kalem players, "The Banker's Daughter." ' A film of striking interest is included, entitled, "The Motor Bandits," dealing with the last days and death of this notorious band of Parisian criminals. Items of recent interest will be illustrated per medium of the popular Pa the London Gazette. "Pohn Bunny" is just as amusing as ever in a cleverly-arranged comedy, "The Red Ink Tragedy." Comic pictures by Lubin and the American Biograph are ineluded, also scenic and industrial items by the world's leading film producers. To-night the Empire Orchestra will be heard in the new weekly budget of musical gems, including the brilliant overture by Ilerr Alctter, "Queen of the Nile."
