THE LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY MISS COLLINS. By Telegraph—Press Association, Nelson, Last Night. The final of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship was played to-day at the Taliunanui links, in glorious "golf weather. The contestants were Miss Collins and Miss Pcarce, both of Wellington. The game was expected to produce a most exciting contest, as both ladies had played consistently throughout the tournament, finishing up j-estcrday with 92 in the Coronation Medal Match. The result, however, proved -to be an easy win for Miss Collins, .by 5 up and 4 to play. The winner never looked like losing, and played with great confidence in a long game, in which she made veryfew mistakes. Miss Pearce, who was expected to win, and whose handicap is one, to Miss Collins's seven, was Tight off her game. She was nervous from the start, and played raggedly at first. She picked up after losing the first two holes, but had no luck. She halved the next four, but never caught Miss Collins. The putting on both eides was weak. The presentation of prizes took place at noon, and most of the golfers left for home bv the delayed steamer at 4.20. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The match for the Thursday Cup, set down for decision yesterday afternoon, was abandoned. TARAHUA CLUB. The qualifying round for the Tarahua Club's championship was completed yesterday in most unfavorable weather, a steady rain falling practically all the afternoon. The following players qualified:—Avery (94). Perrv (90), Broome (100) and J. G. List (104). The playoffs will commence on Saturday.
